This is a map of all the screenings of the People’s Emergency Briefing across the UK.
To take one line from the film, we are living in the least extreme climate we will ever know in our lifetimes. And it is set to get far worse, with catastrophic breakdown of our food security, health systems and national security in the next 20-30 years.
The People’s Emergency Briefing film comes to our area!
Westall Village Hall
8th July 7pm
Join us at Westhall Village Hall on Wednesday 8th July, 7pm for the local preview of this powerful film, hosted by Chris Packham.
The 45 minute film comprises a series of 10 “Expert Briefings” about the likely impact on our current way of life caused by rate of heating in the next decade and beyond (stress on water supply, disruption of food sources, economic threats, …).
The film also includes examples of positive actions being taken, such as the “greening up” of towns and cities, which reduces excess heat and creates a more attractive environment; there are also, perhaps surprisingly, some “laugh out loud” moments…! Each Expert Briefing is followed by responses from small audience groups and high-profile people including Deborah Meaden, Jennifer Saunders (wonderfully outspoken, as ever), Connie Huq and others.
The film has recently been released for showing to local audiences throughout the country to promote conversation about the climate crisis within local communities and to drive action on the part of government. The aim of the filmmakers is for the climate crisis to be put on an emergency footing – as happening at the outbreak of the Covid epidemic – and for participants to write to their MP in support of this, requesting a primetime broadcast for the film and a nationwide conversation about how to move forward together. The sooner we act, the easier the mitigations and the more pleasant our lives and those of the next generation.
The film’s producers aim for the PEB to be “contagious” with each local showing leading to two more (do the maths, it’s impressive!). We at Halesworth ASH are intrigued by this idea and will launch the film in the rural village of Westhall, with the aim of engaging a wide range of people – farmers, students, home-workers, councillors and more – as well as some of those from outlying villages and towns who might like to host the film in their communities; a subsequent screening, in Halesworth, is being organised for September. If you want to organise a screening in your area, check out the NEB website – there’s lots of really helpful resources and film-hire is free.
