Halesworth ASH (Area Sustainability Hub) grew out of Halesworth Climate Action Conference 2023. Initially set up as part of Halesworth Town Council, we incorporated after our 3rd successful climate conference, to be more autonomous although we still retain strong links with both the town council and Blyth Valley Churches.
Along with these partners, we work closely with our neighbouring Waveney Valley towns of Beccles and Bungay and local district and county councillors. We have been inspired by the work of others in Suffolk, including locally in Woodbridge and Leiston.
We now operate as a formal committee of 10 and have applied to become a CIC which will enable us to secure a wider range of grants and support.
Halesworth ASH has a number of different areas of activity, focused on public engagement, practical support, “carbon in” (working to keep it in the ground, or sequester it) and “carbon out” reduction initiatives, using a report commissioned from Opergy Energy Consultancy to guide us.
Working with local people and organisations, we gather local solutions, driving sustainable actions to mitigate climate change.
Our objectives as defined in our constitution, are:
i. Serve as a hub to support practical, sustainable measures in response to the climate emergency
ii. Celebrate nature and promote measures to increase biodiversity in the town and surrounding areas
iii. Facilitate events that educate and inform local people about the part they can play
iv. Collaborate with Halesworth Town Council (HTC) and Blyth Valley Churches (BVC) in implementing their plans to mitigate the impact of the climate emergency in the communities they serve.
The groups we work with are listed in Our Network.
