Here are the pollution maps for our recent test day (Sept 29).
This is the worst set of results we have seen in the monthly test program.
The rivers have undoubtedly been stressed by the exceptional lack of rainfall and high temperatures. You’ll note that the upper Blyth and Holton tributary remain completely dry.
Consistently high pollution in the Wang, especially upstream of the Wangford STW, and high E coli concentrations in the tidal Blyth estuary – probably related to the flow of upstream contamination on the turning tide. We have reported the Wang pollution, specifically, to the Environment Agency, but their response was somewhere between lukewarm and bland, with no intention of any action.
Many thanks to the testing team for their hard work and enthusiasm.
