In the recent Earthwatch report September 2024, (alerted by Wil Harvey) Anglian river basin district is the wort hit. The Thames and Anglian river basin districts
have the worst water quality in the UK, with less than 20% of measurements showing
good water quality (based on 455 and 255 datapoints, respectively). There are unavoidable physical hindrances – the land is flat and the rainfall the least – but even so, to have such high concentrations of nutrient pollution is unacceptable
