Argument against joining up from John Taylor: The massive power cut in Spain shows why we can’t combine all the wind farms off East Anglia and cable them under the sea to a single connection point near London. We need the multiple connections, pylons and substations to improve grid resilience and avoid creating single risk of failure points. If one 1.5GW wind farm fails that’s manageable. But if you lose 12GW in one go like in Spain that’s a national problem.
