Halesworth Ash to Norwich – March 2025

At the invitation of Peter Belton, Jim and Rachel ventured up to Norwich to be part of a day talking climate resilience and present a paper: Halesworth Ash – Progressing a movement: working with church, council and community.

A stimulating and enjoyable day, well curated by Peter, and involving not only some of the inspiring enterprises to mitigate climate change in Norwich (the town of my birth( but also a viewing of the great Coat of Hopes, which has traveled up to COP 26 and will shortly be traveling through Halesworth, worn by various people on the way. (Walk 21 – Norwich to Lowestoft, 22nd – 25th of March 2025)

A few people came up to us at the end and said: We all want to move to Halesworth! Interesting the different challenges of a small down and a city. As I arrived after a while since I visited my city of birth, I felt quite jealous of all the diversity around me, the cafe’s, the far more mixed population, the once familiar churches and pubs, the city of UEA, access to research from John Innes centre, a proper river, a climate resilient housing project. But as Peter said, a smaller town is less complex to encapsulate and find a pathway. With diversity comes complexity.
